Hi Shivani, Tell us a little about yourself.
Hi everyone, my name is Shivani Mehta and currently I work as a SDE at Sharechat. Previously, I was enrolled with Tokopedia as Software Engineer. I am a 2021 graduate in Computer Applications and after completing 1 year with Tokopedia I have finally made my switch to Sharechat as SDE.
Great, so tell us about your experience with Sharechat, how does the new workplace feel?
Honestly, Super Happy, Super proud and if you ask me to sum it up in 2 words then Happy and excited it is.
Lovely, Can you take us through your journey to the same, from building your resume to getting the offer letter?
Yes, so I started with Programming Pathshala in their first ever batch and it was just when covid started spreading enormously. I wasn’t very good with DSA initially but as the time went by, I kept practising and with doubt resolution sessions, resume building sessions, Live classes etc that takes place here, I could feel the difference in my skills and till date I keep on practising DSA as and when time allows to never leave the touch of that. I even had my offer letter from Amazon to join them as SDE, however I wanted to join Sharechat and went for it.
That’s nice, so you chose to move forward with Sharechat and not Amazon. Can you take us through your Interview process at Sharechat?
Sure, so my notice period was of 2 months and as soon as I got Amazon’s offer, I forwarded my notice to my previous employer, but I was still in touch with my friends to apply at some other organisations as well. I got my referral for Sharechat through one of my friends and as soon as I applied, the position got filled. However, I received an email from the Recruiter just 3 days later that the position has gotten open again to apply and I filled the form. After that my interview rounds began which consisted of 3 rounds in total:
1st round was completely based upon DSA, 2nd round was based upon Low level design and a bit of DSA again and the third round was based upon Managerial kind of discussions in which the Manager came and asked me a few questions related to Tech stack, basic problem solving etc and after all these rounds, I soon received my offer letter from their end.
So Shivani, you have been a part of Programming Pathshala for a pretty long time, right?
Yes, almost 2 and a half years.
Hahah, that’s even longer than I have been here, so I am sure you must have some memories or times that you would like to share with us?
Absolutely, so some time back, while I was preparing with the course, I had lost my Grand father and it was a difficult time in my life, at that time, Anoop bhaiya used to talk to me and have made sure that I was feeling okay and did not lag behind with my preparations. Vivek bhaiya’s teaching and Bharat bhaiya’s guidance has always been top-notch and kept me hooked with my preparations, Even though I had gotten rejected from Top-Tech companies in past, but having Amazon and Sharechat’s offer in my hands felt surreal and I am definitely proud of myself.
Amazing Shivani, It has been lovely having a word with you, but before you leave, any piece of advice for our fellow SDE’s in making?
Yes, I would say, Go slow if you want to, there is definitely no rush to complete the course but make sure you keep practicing everyday, consistently. It will lead you to be better way of learning and go piece by piece, just be consistent with your preparations. As even I have mentioned earlier, when my grand father passed away, I had lost consistency and even though all the mentors were there by my side asking me to relax and everything will be okay, but it still hampered my preparations and I almost felt like I won’t be able to get back with the course as I was earlier, however I managed to let that time pass and came back stronger, so to everyone preparing at the moment, my only advice to you all will be, do not worry everything will be alright, just keep working consistently and you will see amazing results soon.
Thankyou so much for those amazing words Shivani, We wish you all the best for your future endeavours. Take Care!
