My journey to become a SDE Intern at Google!
#100Stories is a series of transformational stories of courage and indomitable will to excel, picked from the lives of tech students, particularly in India. Initiative by Programming Pathshala.
Hello everyone! This is Niranshi Agrawal. I am in my 3rd year pursuing Bachelors in Computer Science from IIT BHU. I started coding in my second year from the very basics.
For me, this is a dream come true. Being a part of Google even as an intern is an honour. I am currently working for Programming Pathshala as a part of their tech team. Recently, I was selected for an internship with Google and I am honoured to say that without Programming Pathshala, I could not have cracked Google’s interview. I would like to share my experience with Programming Pathshala’s detailed and handcrafted, 6 month’s course as well as my interview experience with Google.
Interview process at Google
Applying to Google for an internship has been my dream. Speaking about my interview experience with Google, it was an on-campus opportunity. Google asked for resume shortlisting and I sent my resume and applied. It was a 2 round interview process with Google.
Well, Google certainly proves its high standards. I heard from the recruiter within 1 working day that I have been shortlisted for the 1st round of interview. On the first day, I received mail sharing details for my first round of interview.
After the first round of interview, the second round of interview was scheduled immediately the day after. There were problem solving questions which varied from medium to hard levels.
My experience with the the 6 month course of Programming Pathshala
I heard about Programming Pathshala and its handcrafted course from one of my seniors; Yagya Modi. Yagya di is a senior in my college who has also gotten an offer from Google as SDE. I was in contact with her and she told me this course would help me a lot. I was a little apprehensive of this course as I did not know if it would actually help me or I would simply be wasting my time. Fortunately, this was the best decision I made. This course has helped me in ways I couldn’t have imagined.
I started at a good but slow pace. It was easy to catch up with the course. This course has proved to be very helpful for me. My interests have always been inclined to coding, programming and development. When I started coding, my problem solving skills and coding were at a very basic level and I was unable to move forward but with the help of Programming Pathshala, I started gaining a strong hold on my interests and was able to move forward with coding.
About Programming Pathshala
Programming Pathshala played a huge role in my success. Programming Pathshala is working to democratise access to Tech Education. They help students learn coding and be confident about themselves. They focus mainly on Data Structure and Algorithms but provide a lot more facilities. They provide lectures, tests, mock interviews, problem questions and also help each student personally if needed.
I was guided by my seniors to enrol in the course. I was a little confused as to if i should join but Anoop Bhaiya (Co-Founder of Programming Pathshala) motivated me to join and it turned out to be definitely worth it.
The content was precise and up to the mark, it adheres to the requirements of the interviews which are being conducted nowadays, which includes data structures, algorithms, system design, and they also provide live classes. Programming Pathshala definitely came as a one stop solution for all my problems, it made my interview preparations better and enhanced my problem solving skills. Upon completion of the course, I felt ready for any interview.
My Resume Building Strategy
For my resume building strategy, I framed my resume and Anoop Bhaiya conducted a few specific sessions on Resume building. It was mostly focused on creating a resume. I was given projects on my resume. My resume got shortlisted for Google and I am very thankful to Anoop Bhaiya for helping me out with my resume. Anoop bhaiya helped me correct my resume and guided me to improve it. Programming Pathshala provides mentorship for every student and helps in resume building. They also provide templates for resumes.
As I said earlier, without Programming Pathshala, my interview with Google would not have been scheduled.
What kept me motivated throughout?
Apart from believing in myself and being consistent with the course, my motto of never giving up was what kept me motivated. Programming Pathshala never failed to motivate me to take my classes and be consistent in the course. In this era of COVID — 19, recordings of classes did really motivate me to go on and Programming Pathshala even provided live lectures with very knowledgeable and helpful faculty. Live classes with Vivek sir were really helpful and interactive. In every class, there was something new to learn. He made classes very fun and informative. As a student. I never wanted to miss Vivek sir’s class.
Last but not the least, personally, Programming Pathshala has been my motivation throughout. We used to e-mails and tests to push us towards our goals.
Again, without Programming Pathshala, I wouldn’t have been here at Google.
Before I leave, I have a few words of advice for the new budding software developers. The only key to success is to never give up. Practice makes you perfect. Learn concepts and practice your way through it. You need to have the proper guidance as well, I had Programming Pathshala.
