#100Stories is a series of transformational stories of courage and indomitable will to excel, picked from the lives of tech students, particularly in India. Initiative by Programming Pathshala.

Hi everyone,

My name is Suraj Choudhary and I am a graduate in BTech, Information Technology from IEM Kolkata in the year 2019. I have been working with TCS as a Backend Developer for 2.6 years and have recently bagged a seat in ULA as their SDE. I will be joining them in the following week.

Making a shift from a Service based company to a Product based company, still gives me Goosebumps. I am proud of making this change for myself as I always wanted to be part of a Product based company so I joined Programming Pathshala, practiced and kept solving questions.

My journey of Transition:

In 2020, Some medical emergency came to my family and one of my close friend asked me to join Programming Pathshala. I was already looking for a course to prepare but many out there were charging huge fees and it seemed impossible for me to pay that much fee being working in TCS with average CTC. As I mentioned earlier, one of my friend told me about Programming Pathshala and soon I spoke with Anoop Bhaiya. I enrolled for the Programming Pathshala course, Renaissance and started practicing coding. I haven’t really been serious about coding before I joined Programming Pathshala and also didn’t attempt any Competitive coding. I feel very fortunate to have chosen to do this course as I had no other option. I had already wasted my 2 years and couldn’t afford to waste any more time. The course, Renaissance here is well structured and definitely helps the one preparing for Top-Tech companies. I would just say that “Follow the course” and you will get to know everything out there. You don’t need to go for any other practice coding questions, The questions which are here itself are more than enough so just solve them.

My Resume shortlisting and Interview process at ULA:

When I started looking for applying at different companies, Anoop bhaiya and Vivek bhaiya helped me a lot. They conducted a few sessions on “Resume Building” and gave tips which helped me build my resume. One such important tip was to build my Resume using Latex instead of MS word.

I also had a good experience being interviewed by ULA. The questions were from Data Structures and Algorithms. In the end, one Managerial round was there which had questions related to one’s Day to day life, for how we tackle different scenarios.

What kept me Motivated?

When I joined the course, it was totally new to me. I knew the concept of arrays, but using those concepts and applying it to solve the problem was not an easy task. Vivek bhaiya and Bharat Bhaiya used to take live classes every weekend and that surely helped me get better with my concepts and Problem solving skills. Even if you attend just those live classes, you will learn how to approach a problem.

While solving any problem, try to first understand and analyse the problem. Don’t think if you have to use Arrays or which Data Structure you have to apply by just looking at the problem. Back when I enrolled for the course, it felt very difficult to keep up with it but Anoop Bhaiya, Bharat Bhaiya and Vivek Bhaiya advised not to panic and just be consistent. You may watch 1 or 2 videos a day and maintain consistency. While studying for the first 3 months with Renaissance, one will reach a point where they will start feeling confident about their preparations. I followed my mentor’s advice and soon after that I gathered the confidence to approach a problem fearlessly, that was definitely a huge change I found in me.

My Favourite Mentor(s) at Programming Pathshala:

During my preparation, Vivek Bhaiya helped me clear my concept of Coding structure. Explained the problems so well, He also explained how one can choose a particular method to solve a problem. His each video is self explanatory in itself. Bharat bhaiya is very approachable and is always available at any time for solving any doubt you may have. They are literally like God to me and I don’t have words to thank them enough, ever! And I don’t think I could find a better place than this. When I feel demotivated or face any challenge, Anoop bhaiya is always there to guide me through it. He can uplifts anyone’s energy, effortlessly. The bonding that these 3 guys share with their students, is very unique and valuable, I never experienced the same anywhere else.

A Word of Advice:

To all my fellow strugglers, I would just like to tell you that Please don’t panic with the course and go with the flow. If you are not able to understand any concept, replay the video, pause it and note the key points. It is okay even if you watch 1 or 2 videos a day just remember to have patience and believe that Consistency is the key.
